WHAT IS K9 SAR?
K9 SAR stands for "K9 Search and Rescue." It refers to the use of specially trained dogs in search and rescue operations to locate missing persons. These dogs are trained to locate any human scent in the air. They are effective in covering large areas and are commonly used in wilderness searches or disaster scenarios. In recent years K9 SAR has gained a lot of popularity among pet dogs - after all, all modern dogs are descendants of wolves and hunting for prey using their nose is in their blood.

CAN MY DOG PARTICIPATE?
It's important to emphasize that while certain breeds (German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, Belgian Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Australian Shepherd, etc.) are commonly chosen for SAR work, individual temperament and drive are critical considerations. Some successful SAR dogs may come from mixed breeds or breeds not traditionally associated with search and rescue. The dog's health, willingness to work, and the ability to bond with their handler are essential factors in determining their suitability for SAR training.
WHAT TO BRING TO THE CLASS?
A well-rested and hungry dog plus your dog favorite treat and/or toy. A dog should wear a well fitted collar. A human should wear comfortable outdoor clothes and shoes.
